ANSWER THE CALL: DIRECTORS NEEDED FOR 2013-14 COLUMBIAN YEAR

Brothers:

We have a few urgent openings in our council that need to be filled.

To be success,  a council needs to succeed at programming and recruitment. Working together, the St. Paul's Council has met with great success over the years. However, there comes a time when brothers who have served with distinction need to be given an opportunity to step down and pass the shoulder of responsibility over to others.

The new executive was elected at our last meeting. I will be filling the director positions over the next couple of weeks. Surge...with Service program manual (#962) contains information on the expectations, duties and responsibilities of the various directors.  If you are interested in serving as a director, please let me know.

At this point, after five years of dedicated service as the leader of our successful First Degree Term, Brother Derm Whelan is stepping aside. I would like to congratulate Derm on his commitment to the the First Degree in terms of recruiting new members, training the degree team and scheduling. He has been a stalwart giving of his time and talent.

New member recruitment is the lifeblood of our organization. Having a first degree team in our parish has enabled us to ensure that perspective members are given an opportunity to join the order every month.

At this point the First Degree Team will need a leader and we may have one, or two, open positions.

If your are interested in joining the First Degree Team, please let me know at whittlep@nf.sympactico.ca or stpaulsgrandknight@gmail.com.

NEW MARIAN PRAYER PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

Continuing a decades-long tradition, the Knights of Columbus will launch their fifteenth international prayer program this August.

The new program, centering on the Immaculate Conception, was announced by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson at the Organizational Meeting of State Deputies in New Haven, Conn.

Since the first prayer program began in 1979, more than 16 million faithful have participated in the Knights’ sponsored holy hours.

This year’s program marks the second time the Order will hold a program consecrated to the Immaculate Conception. The first program was held from 1981-1982.

The Order will commission nearly 100 icons of the Immaculate Conception using an image from Notre-Dame de Quebec, in Quebec City at their international convention in San Antonio this August. The icons will travel throughout the world, under the organization of local Knights’ councils who will present prayer programs with the icon for their parishes and communities.

The current program, dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, will conclude this August. It has been the most successful prayer program in the Order’s history, Anderson said.

CONSIDER JOINING THE EXECUTIVE

Our fraternal year is coming to end at the end of June.

As we move towards the final days of the 2011-2012 fraternal year, Brothers Ron O'Brien and Jim Murray are  working diligently to identify potential officer candidates for the 2012-2013 fraternal year.

Perhaps, they have already spoken with you about being on our leadership team.

As the Blessed John Paul II said, "Be Not Afraid!"

Being a member of the leadership team is both rewarding and fun. If you are undecided or you are unsure whether you can handle the additional commitment, please seek out our trustees or me for reassurances that there will be ample resources and support to make the job one where you will be successful.

The qualifications to be a Council officer is fairly simple: must be at least a 3rd Degree Knight. That's it.

The commitment is only for one year (or more if you desire).

The elected positions are: Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Recorder, Advocate, Treasurer, Warden, Inside Guard, Outside Guard. Non-elected positions are: Chaplain, Lecturer, Financial Secretary, and the three Trustees.

We are strong and healthy council with a membership of over 140 men who are committed to charity in our community. United in purpose our good works and deeds help the unfortunate and promote our faith.

We are a successful organization. Our executive supports each other, we effectively follow our plans and are recognized for our dedication.

If you have not served on the executive, please consider offering your talents to your fraternal organization. We need to ensure that our organization remains strong. That means sharing the leadership load.

St. Paul's Council is one of the best council's in this province. Let us continue to earn the respect of our families, community and church.

Please consider a role on the leadership team during the 2013-14  fraternal year.

Peter Whittle
Grand Knight
